WhatsApp DP guide
WhatsApp DP size: how to fit your full profile picture
WhatsApp does not publish a size for profile photos; it shows them as a circle and crops anything that is not square. Our advice: make the picture square yourself, at least 1080 × 1080 px, with your face in the middle and space around it, and the full photo fits. AwaCut cuts you out and puts you on a plain colour first, offline.

Pick a photo your contacts will recognise
Head and shoulders, daylight, a natural smile. The street behind you is about to go.
Cut yourself out with AwaCut
Drop the photo into AwaCut and choose Custom, then type a colour such as #DCFCE7, a soft green. You get the same photo on a plain background, at its full size, in about 4 seconds on a Mac Studio (M4 Max).
Make it square, then set it
Crop square with space around the head, so WhatsApp has nothing left to cut. On a computer (WhatsApp Web or desktop): click your profile photo, then Profile, then the photo, and Upload photo. On the phone, open Settings and tap your photo.

The finished DP
The AwaCut cutout on a soft green (Custom, #DCFCE7), square, face centred, space above the head: the full picture survives the circle.
Check it small

The same picture as a circle at 110 px, about the size on a profile page, and at 40 px, the size beside a comment or a message. The face still reads at both, because it fills the frame and the background is plain.

Three mistakes on WhatsApp DPs
Uploading a tall photo
WhatsApp crops it square and then to a circle. Do the square crop yourself so you choose what stays.
No space around the head
A tight square still loses the top of the head in the circle.
A dark photo
In a chat list the picture is tiny. A plain, light colour behind you keeps the face readable.
Why the full photo did not fit
Most people searching for a “full DP” upload a tall phone photo, and the circle cuts their head or shoulders. A cutout on a plain square fixes it for good. AwaCut does it on your computer, with no upload and no credits: as many photos as you want, all year.
Try it on your own photos: the first 10 are free, no account.

Frequently asked questions
What is the WhatsApp DP size?
WhatsApp does not publish one. Upload a square of at least 1080 × 1080 px; it is shown as a circle, so keep the face in the middle.
How do I fit the full photo in my WhatsApp DP?
Make the picture square yourself, with space around you, before uploading. Cut yourself out and put the cutout on a plain square a little larger than you; WhatsApp then has nothing to crop.
How do I change my WhatsApp profile picture?
On WhatsApp Web or desktop, click your profile photo, then Profile, then the photo, and choose Upload photo. On the phone, open Settings and tap your photo.
Who can see my WhatsApp profile photo?
You choose it in Settings > Privacy > Profile photo, for example My contacts or Nobody.
How do I change the background of my WhatsApp profile picture?
Drop the photo into AwaCut and choose Custom to put yourself on a plain colour, or White, or Alpha for a transparent PNG. It runs offline on Mac, Windows and Linux.
A clean profile picture, from the photo you already have
The first 10 photos are free on each computer, with no account and no card. Then one yearly licence for as many photos as you want.
