Comparison

AwaCut vs Canva

Canva is a design platform, and its Background Remover is one tool inside it, on paid plans: you cut out a photo where you design with it. It runs in the cloud, removes backgrounds in folders of up to 50 images at a time, and scales photos larger than 10 megapixels down to 10 MP after the cutout. AwaCut does only the cutout, on your own computer: whole folders of any size, at the original resolution, for a flat $29 per year. Here is the honest comparison.

Checked October 2026 on Canva's Help Center: Background Remover is included with paid plans; bulk removal works on folders of up to 50 uploaded images, one folder at a time; photos must be under 9 MB, and photos over 10 MP are downscaled to 10 MP after the background is removed. remove.bg, which Canva owns, points its users to Canva when its standalone service closes on 1 December 2026.

When Canva is the better pick

You are designing anyway: social posts, flyers, presentations, product graphics. The cutout is one step in a layout, and you already pay for Canva Pro. For that, removing the background inside Canva is the shortest path, and AwaCut does not replace the editor.

When AwaCut wins

You need the cutouts themselves, many at a time and at full size: a catalogue, a marketplace folder, print files. AwaCut handles folders of hundreds of photos in one run, keeps the original resolution and never uploads them, for $29 a year.

Is AwaCut a good Canva alternative?

For cutouts at volume and at full resolution, yes: AwaCut processes whole folders on your computer and keeps the original size, while Canva's bulk removal takes up to 50 images per folder and scales photos above 10 megapixels down to 10 MP. If the cutout is one step in a design you make in Canva, staying in Canva is simpler, and the two work well together: cut out in AwaCut, design in Canva.

Is the cutout quality comparable?

AwaCut ships a state-of-the-art open AI model (BiRefNet) that handles hair, fur and fine edges well. The trial includes 10 free images at full resolution, so you can judge the quality on your own photos before paying.

Is AwaCut free?

The trial is free for 10 images at full resolution. After that it is $29 per year for unlimited images, with no account and no credits.
