A background remover for Linux that works on whole folders
AwaCut is a desktop background remover for Linux. It removes the background from hundreds of photos at once on your own computer, with nothing uploaded and no per-image credits: one flat $29 per year, unlimited. The free trial processes 10 images at full resolution.
v1.0.5 · Free trial: 10 images at full resolution. No account, no card.
What you need
A 64-bit (x86-64) Linux distribution.
AppImage runs on most mainstream distributions without installing packages.
Install it
- 1Download the .AppImage file.
- 2Make it executable: chmod +x on the file, or Properties, Allow executing.
- 3Run it. There is nothing to install or uninstall: the AppImage is the whole app in one file.
How it runs on your computer
The AI model ships inside the app and runs on the processor, so no graphics card is needed and no photo is uploaded. On a recent Apple silicon Mac it takes about 3 seconds per image; older or slower computers take longer. The licence covers 2 computers in any mix of macOS, Windows and Linux.

Does AwaCut need a graphics card?
No. Background removal runs on the processor. A faster processor finishes a folder sooner, but any 64-bit computer that meets the requirements works.
Does it work without an internet connection?
Yes. Processing and exporting work offline. The licence is activated online once and rechecked about every 30 days, with a two-week grace period when you are offline.
Can I use one licence on Linux and on another system?
Yes. One licence activates on 2 computers, in any mix of macOS, Windows and Linux.
