Getting AwaCut onto a Mac, a Windows PC or a Linux machine.
Download the .dmg, drag AwaCut into Applications and open it.
The .dmg is in the download section on the home page. Open AwaCut from Applications, not from the mounted disk image.
AwaCut is signed and notarized by Apple. On the first launch macOS may ask once whether you want to open an app downloaded from the internet: click Open.
It needs a Mac with Apple silicon (M1 or later) and macOS 13.4 or newer.
Get it from the Microsoft Store, or run the signed .exe installer.
Both are the same app, with the same licence key and the same updates. The installer is signed by AYA MIM S.R.L., the company that makes AwaCut, with a certificate from Certum, and it puts AwaCut in your Start menu.
If Windows shows a blue SmartScreen window, click More info: it names AYA MIM S.R.L. as the publisher. Then click Run anyway.
AwaCut needs Windows 10 or 11, 64-bit.
Download the .AppImage, make it executable and run it.
Make the .AppImage executable with chmod +x and run it. There is nothing to install and nothing to uninstall: the AppImage is the whole application in one file.
It needs a 64-bit (x86-64) Linux.
A Mac with Apple silicon, Windows 10 or 11, or 64-bit Linux. No graphics card.
In detail: macOS 13.4 or newer on an M1 or later Mac (Intel Macs are not supported), 64-bit Windows 10 or 11, or 64-bit Linux. Background removal runs on the processor.
No internet connection is needed to remove a background, and your images never leave your computer.

Drag the folder onto the AwaCut window.
Or press Add Folder. Every image inside is queued and processed one after another, and you can leave it running.
Add Images picks individual files instead, and you can select as many as you like in the dialog. Folders and loose files sit in the same queue.
Nothing is uploaded. The images are read from your disk and processed on your own processor. Each cutout is saved as soon as it is ready, to the folder chosen under Export to Folder: Pictures/AwaCut unless you pick another.
JPG, PNG, WebP, BMP and TIFF everywhere, plus HEIC on a Mac.
HEIC and HEIF are the iPhone's photo formats, and a Mac opens them directly.
Photos from a phone come out the right way up: AwaCut reads the rotation the phone saved with each photo.
Set the background to Alpha and the format to PNG.
Alpha is what the app calls a transparent background, and with PNG it produces a real alpha channel, the kind that stays see-through when you drop the cutout onto another colour.
JPG cannot store transparency at all. If Alpha is selected, AwaCut switches the format back to PNG and disables JPG rather than silently flattening your cutout onto white. WebP supports transparency too, and AwaCut saves it lossless, like PNG. In our test on 20 phone photos, WebP came out about a third smaller than PNG.
Pick White, or Custom for any colour, in the background control.
The background control offers Alpha (transparent), White and Custom. Whichever you pick applies to every image in the queue, so a whole catalogue comes out on exactly the same background.
Outline adds a border in white or a colour of your choice, with adjustable thickness. It is the sticker look, and it is applied at export time.
Changing the background or the format re-exports what is already in the queue. You do not need to run the batch again.
PNG, WebP and JPG, at the photo's original size.
PNG and WebP keep transparency; JPG does not and is only offered when the background is not transparent.
A 4000 pixel photo comes out 4000 pixels wide.
Use the largest copy of the photo, with the subject clear of the background.
Hair, fur, lace and wire come out best when the subject stands apart from what is behind it, in colour or in brightness. A white shoe on a white sheet is the hard case.
The most reliable fix is at the camera: put visible separation between the subject and the background. Otherwise, feed in the largest version of the photo you have rather than a downscaled copy.
If a specific photo comes out wrong and you think it should not, send it to contact@aya.software. Real cases are how the model gets better.

It is the complete application, not a watermarked preview: the ten cutouts are yours to use. The counter is per computer and does not reset.
When the ten are used, the rest of your photos stay in the list and a window opens that counts them under Photos waiting. Press Buy AwaCut, or I already have a key to paste yours, and they carry on by themselves the moment the key is active.

The AI model ships inside the app, so a whole folder can be processed with no connection, and your images never leave your computer.
The internet is used to activate your licence once, to recheck it about every 30 days, to look for updates and news, and to send a few anonymous usage signals, never images or file names. None of it is needed to remove a background.
Paste the key once, online. After that it works offline.
Buy a licence key, paste it into AwaCut, and the app checks it online once to activate it. After that, removing backgrounds needs no connection at all.
The app rechecks the key about every 30 days. If you are offline when that check is due, AwaCut keeps working and tries again the next time it starts or finishes a photo. A laptop on a plane or in a studio with no signal keeps working.
Check Spam or Promotions, or open your Polar customer portal.
The email comes from Polar, our payment provider, with the subject "You're now subscribed to AwaCut". Your key is also always available in your Polar customer portal, opened from that email.

A desktop and a laptop, or a work computer and a home computer.
Press Deactivate this device on the old computer, then enter the key on the new one.
Press Deactivate this device in AwaCut on the computer you are leaving, while it is online, then paste the same key into AwaCut on the new one. Do the same before you reinstall the operating system: a reinstall removes the activation from the computer, not from your licence.
If the old machine is gone, broken or wiped and you cannot deactivate it there, you can free the seat yourself from your Polar customer portal, or write to contact@aya.software with your licence key and we will do it.
AwaCut keeps working on the version you have.
It still removes backgrounds, offline, as many as you like. Your licence stays valid for every version released while it was active; renewing brings you the versions that come after. The cutouts you exported are files on your disk and they are yours permanently.
There are no credits to lose and no images that expire.
When a version comes out that your licence does not cover, AwaCut tells you in the update bar and links to renewal instead of installing it.
It renews once a year, and you can cancel any time.
Cancel in your Polar customer portal. The licence stays valid until the end of the paid year, and the installed app keeps working after that.

remove.bg Desktop stops working on 1 December 2026. AwaCut does the same job: drag in a folder and get transparent PNGs, offline.
remove.bg points people to Canva. Canva's bulk background removal takes folders of up to 50 images, one folder at a time, on a paid plan, and needs an internet connection.
AwaCut has no Photoshop plugin and no API. It works on your own computer, so nothing is uploaded.
Yes: download your invoices and credit usage report before 1 December 2026.
remove.bg says accounts stay reachable until 1 December 2026 at 09:00 CET and not after, and that your credit usage report and your invoices cannot be downloaded once that happens.
Export both from your remove.bg account page before that date. You may well need the invoices for your accounting long after the service is gone. This has nothing to do with which tool you switch to.
No. One price per year, whatever the number of images.
There is no credit balance, no top-up, no tier to outgrow and nothing to expire.
That is possible because the processing happens on your computer, so each extra image costs us nothing.
Write to us with the version you are running and, if it is about a specific photo, the photo itself. A real person reads it.
