How to make food PNGs from your own photos

Three steps in AwaCut, the same for one dish or a whole menu.

  1. Drop in the folder of food photos

Dishes for the menu, jars and bottles for the shop: drag the whole folder in and hundreds queue at once, about 4 seconds each on a Mac Studio (M4 Max).

  2. Pick the background

White (pure white, RGB 255) for marketplaces, Alpha for transparent PNGs, or Custom for a warm brand colour. One setting covers the whole folder.

  3. Saved for the menu or the shop

JPG on a solid background for menus and delivery apps, PNG or WebP with real transparency for your site and designs. Each photo is saved as soon as it is ready, at the resolution you shot it.

Food photography tips for clean cutouts

Three things that decide how food looks once the background is gone.

  • Wipe the glass before you shoot

Fingerprints and smudges on jars and bottles blur the edge. A quick wipe gives a cleaner cutout than any fix afterwards.

  • One angle for the whole menu

Shoot every dish from the same height and distance. On the same background, the menu then reads as one set.

  • One batch, two exports

Run the folder on White for marketplaces. Then pick another Export to Folder and a warm Custom colour: AwaCut saves every photo again, for your site and menus. You do not shoot anything twice.

Why not a per-image web tool?

A menu changes with the season, and a shop adds new flavours all year. Web tools charge for every image, so each update costs again. AwaCut is a flat $29 a year for as many photos as you want, all year, cut on your own computer.

Questions food sellers ask

About glass jars, menus, delivery apps and the price. Not here? Write to contact@aya.software, a person answers.

Does it work on glass jars and bottles?

Yes. Jars filled with honey, jam or sauce cut out cleanly, like the honey jar at the top of this page. An empty, fully clear glass is harder, because the background shows through it, so test it on the 10 free photos.

Can I do a whole delivery menu at once?

Yes: drop the folder with every dish and the batch runs at about 4 seconds per photo on a Mac Studio (M4 Max), offline. Choose JPG on White or a custom colour for the menu, or PNG for your site; each photo is saved at the original resolution.

Which background works best for food?

Marketplaces usually want white: Amazon asks for a pure white background on the main image. Menus and brand sites often look warmer on a soft colour. AwaCut exports the same cutouts on White, Alpha or any custom colour.

Can I make my own food PNGs instead of using stock images?

Yes. Keep the background on Alpha and export PNG or WebP: real transparency, at the size of your photo. They show your own dishes, so the picture matches what the customer gets.

Can I use the images commercially?

Yes, the exports are yours to use commercially: menus, delivery apps, your shop, ads, packaging. No watermark is ever written into an export, the 10 trial photos included.

Can I use photos straight from my phone?

Yes. AwaCut reads JPG, PNG, WebP, BMP and TIFF, and on a Mac also HEIC, the format iPhones use. 500 phone photos take about 32 minutes on a Mac Studio (M4 Max).

Does it work on Windows and Mac?

Yes. AwaCut runs on macOS 13.4 or later (Apple silicon), Windows 10 or 11 (64-bit) and Linux, and one licence covers 2 computers. Background removal runs on the computer itself, so it works offline too.

What does it cost for a full menu or shop?

$29 a year, flat, for as many photos as you want, all year. No credits, no watermark. The first 10 photos are free at full resolution, and if you cancel, the app keeps working on your version.
