Remove white background
How to remove a white background and make it transparent
To remove a white background, AwaCut finds the subject with AI and makes everything around it transparent, including the white inside letters and between the loops of a signature, then saves a transparent PNG. Unlike a tool that makes every white pixel transparent, it leaves the white parts of the subject alone, such as a white shoe or the white letter in a logo. It works on one image or a whole folder, on your own computer.

1. Add the images
Drop a logo, a scanned signature, a product shot on white, or a whole folder of them into AwaCut. Nothing is uploaded.
2. Choose Alpha and PNG
Set the background to Alpha, the app's name for transparent, and the format to PNG or WebP. JPG cannot store transparency, so it is not offered with Alpha.
3. Check the thin lines, then export
Look at small text and thin strokes in the compare view, the parts that need the most care, then export the whole batch.
Three ways to remove a white background
| Method | What it removes | Where it goes wrong |
|---|---|---|
| Make white transparent (magic wand, colour key) | Every pixel close to white, wherever it is | Holes in the white or very light parts of the subject, and a pale fringe along soft edges |
| AI background removal (AwaCut) | The background around the subject, and the white gaps it encloses | Very small text can come out slightly softer; check it in the compare view |
| Exporting from the original vector file | Nothing: the file never had a background | Only possible when you have the SVG, AI or EPS original |
For logos, the original vector file is always the cleanest source when you have it; for everything else, a cutout is.
Three reasons a white background will not go away cleanly
Saving the result as JPG
JPG has no transparency, so a removed background comes back as white the moment you save. Save PNG, or WebP for smaller files.
Making every white pixel transparent
A colour key cannot tell the background from the subject, so a white shoe, a white label or the white letter in a logo badge disappears with the background. AwaCut separates the subject first, so white that belongs to it stays.
Starting from a small, compressed file
Compression noise around a logo turns into a grey fringe once the white is gone. Start from the largest version of the file you have.
Why do it on your computer
Client logos under NDA, signatures and unreleased products never leave your machine. There are no credits, so a folder of 300 logos costs the same as one: nothing beyond the flat $29 a year.
Will the white inside letters become transparent?
Yes. In our tests, the gaps inside letters such as O, D and B and the paper inside the loops of a signature came out transparent, while the letters and the ink stayed solid.
Will the white parts of my product disappear?
No. AwaCut separates the subject from the background, so white parts that belong to the subject, such as a white sneaker, a white label or the white letter in a logo badge, stay opaque.
Can I remove the white background from a whole folder at once?
Yes. Drop the folder and every image is processed in one run, offline, with no per-image cost.
Which format keeps the transparency?
PNG or WebP. Both store transparency; WebP files are smaller. JPG cannot store it, so AwaCut does not offer JPG when the background is set to Alpha.
Does it work on scanned signatures?
Yes, best with a dark pen and a high-resolution scan. A thick, clearly visible line keeps its full colour; a very thin line can come out partly see-through.
