Discord banner size: profile and server banners
A profile banner needs Nitro and must be a PNG, JPG or animated GIF under 10 MB, at least 680 × 240 px. A server banner comes with Boost Level 2 (animated from Level 3) and needs at least 960 × 540 px in 16:9; Discord says to keep the top 48 px simple and to avoid logos and text in it. Cut yourself out with AwaCut
Drop the photo, or a whole folder, into AwaCut. Choose Alpha for a transparent PNG, or Custom and type a colour such as #312E81 to get it on a plain background straight away. About 4 seconds a photo on a Mac Studio (M4 Max), at full size.
Make the right canvas
Profile banner: 1360 × 480 (twice the 680 × 240 minimum). Server banner: 1920 × 1080; Discord resizes it. Keep the top 48 px of a server banner simple.
Upload it
Profile: User Settings (the cogwheel), Profiles, Change Banner, crop, Apply. Server: Server Settings, Overview, then Server Banner Background at the bottom.

Check it small
In a profile card the banner is small. Big words and a large face read there; small text does not.
