Twitch banner size: the profile banner
Twitch recommends 1200 × 480 px for the profile banner. Images of another height are scaled to 480 px high, and on windows wider than the image it is stretched, so Twitch advises making it as wide as possible and keeping the graphics on the left. Upload it in the Creator Dashboard under Settings, Channel, Brand. AwaCut cuts you out for the banner, offline.

Cut yourself out with AwaCut
Drop the photo, or a whole folder, into AwaCut. Choose Alpha for a transparent PNG, or Custom and type a colour such as #4C1D95 to get it on a plain background straight away. About 4 seconds a photo on a Mac Studio (M4 Max), at full size.
Make a 1200 × 480 canvas, or wider
Twitch advises as wide as possible with the graphics on the left: put the cutout and your schedule in the left half and let a plain colour fill the rest.
Upload it
In the Creator Dashboard, open Settings, Channel, then the Brand tab. Under Profile Banner, click Update and pick the file.

Graphics on the right
Twitch advises the left. On wide windows the banner stretches, and the left is what stays put.
A banner of another height
Twitch scales it to 480 px high. Start at 1200 × 480.
A face too small
The banner is a strip. Crop the cutout to head and shoulders.
