Facebook cover photo guide
Facebook cover photo size, for profiles and Pages
On a personal profile the cover has to be at least 720 px wide. On a Page, Facebook asks for at least 400 × 150 px, says it loads fastest as an 851 × 315 JPG under 100 KB, and shows it at 16:9 on computers and 2.4:1 on phones, aligned left, with the profile picture covering part of the left side. So keep words in the middle and the left side plain. AwaCut cuts out your products for the cover, offline.

Cut your products out with AwaCut
Drop the photo, or a whole folder, into AwaCut. Choose Alpha for a transparent PNG, or Custom and type a colour such as #E0F2FE to get it on a plain background straight away. About 4 seconds a photo on a Mac Studio (M4 Max), at full size.
Make a wide canvas
1702 × 630 px (851 × 315 at twice the size, for sharp screens). The left side plain for the profile picture, words in the middle, products on the right.
Upload it
On a computer: click your profile picture at the top right, then your name, then Edit cover photo, upload the image, drag to position it, and Save changes.

The finished cover
1702 × 630, three AwaCut cutouts on light sky blue (Custom, #E0F2FE) and a two-line headline. Nothing near the edges, so both computer and phone keep it.
Check it on a phone

Phones show the cover at a different shape than computers. A design that keeps everything in the middle survives both.

Three mistakes on Facebook covers
Words near the edges
The phone crop cuts them. Keep them in the middle.
A busy photo behind the text
A plain colour keeps the headline readable at any size.
A tiny image stretched
Below 720 px wide it looks soft. Start larger.
A cover that shows what you sell
A row of your own products, cut out on your shop's colour, says what the Page is about before anyone reads. One drop into AwaCut cuts out everything for the banner, the posts and the listings around it. It runs on your computer, with no credits: as many photos as you want, all year.
Try it on your own photos: the first 10 are free, no account.
